You’ve Got The Frequently Asked Questions… We’ve Got The Answers.
Q. When’s the best season/time of year to fish?
A. We offer year-round opportunities to fly fish in North Georgia, so there are always fish to be found in our area. If you’re planning a trip specifically to fish for trout, Spring and Fall are particularly spectacular! However, our waterways allow us to fish year-round. If you are looking to chase a specific species or type of fishing (dry fly, nymph, streamers, etc.), give us a call at 888-792-3364. We’d love to get a trip that is best suitable for you.
Q. Do you need to know how to fly fish before I do a guided trip?
A. Absolutely not! Our guides are trained to tailor the trip to your needs and experience level. They will have no problem providing proper instruction to those who need it.
Q. Do you offer Instructional Classes for beginners instead of a guided trip?
A. We do have an Instructional time where you can spend 2 hours with a guide learning about the sport; however, we highly recommend doing a guided trip first. The best way to learn is to do, and doing a guided trip that is instruction-based will help reinforce what we teach. Also, you get the chance to actually catch some fish!
Q. Do I need any gear for the trip?
A. Included in the price of the trip is all gear (waders, boots, rods, reels, flies, etc.) Any gear needed for the trip will be provided for you. The only thing not included in the price of the trip is a Georgia State Fishing License with the Trout Fishing Option and the guide gratuity. Other than that, we have everything you need to have an awesome day on the water!
Q. Where can I get a Fishing License?
A. You can either get the fishing license at a local Walmart or go online to https://license.gooutdoorsgeorgia.com/Licensing/CustomerLookup.aspx (Make sure to get the Trout Fishing added onto the Standard Georgia Fishing License)
Q. I want to bring my own gear, what setup should I bring?
A. A standard 9′ 5wt. Rod will handle just about anything in North Georgia. If you are looking for a specific species, feel free to give us a call and we can walk through those specific options with you.
Q. Where should I purchase fly fishing gear?
A. Cohutta Fishing will have a location in Downtown Blue Ridge, GA at 490 E Main St. There you can get waders, boots, rods, reels, flies, etc. Anything you need, those awesome guys will have it!!
